Media Statement – Cyber Incident on 31 July 2024

On 31 July 2024, we discovered that our firm was a victim of a cyberattack by a group who identified themselves to be the Lockbit ransomware gang. As a result of the attack, data belonging to some of our clients became encrypted. While there is no evidence of any data exfiltration by the threat actor, it remains a possibility. As the nature of data encrypted varies between clients, there is a risk of fraudulent activity for the affected clients. We urge everyone to exercise caution in relation to fraudulent activity from unknown or unverified sources.

We are currently working closely with the relevant authorities in the aftermath of the cyberattack to determine the root of the attack and minimise its impact on our affected clients. At this juncture, we suspect that the threat actor may have accessed our systems by way of an infected file unknowingly sent to us by one of our clients.

We sincerely apologise to those affected by this incident, and we are currently working with experts to improve on our security systems and prevent a repeat of said incident. We urge all concerned clients to contact us at contact@scwlaw.com.sg.
